The University of Arizona College of Humanities is excited to announce plans for a new home for the Center for Buddhist Studies inside the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, a landmark health and wellness facility that will live in the heart of campus.

The Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine facility will unite the concepts and philosophies upon which integrative medicine is built. In recognition of the complementary nature of our two centers, the Center for Buddhist Studies will have a suite inside this innovative building that will be uniquely suited to its mission. In addition to research space, the suite will provide a location for display of and access to the impressive Maitreya Library of Buddhist Canon, as well as offices, a conference room and a special tea ceremony space.

The partnership between the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine and the Center for Buddhist Studies is a great example of how University of Arizona programs can enhance each other’s work. Like integrative medicine, Buddhist Studies takes a humanistic approach to the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of individuals and the community. Collaboration between the two Centers will enhance research outcomes and allow for the synthesis of Buddhist practices into health and wellness curriculum.

This new home will enable the Center for Buddhist Studies to host visiting scholarships, international conferences, educational programs, and community lecture series. The suite will also dramatically increase the Center’s capacity for research and student engagement. Upon completion of this project, the Center for Buddhist Studies suite will be the largest facility of its kind anywhere outside of Asia.

Please see the Center's website for more details about this exciting project. If you would like to learn more about how you can become involved, please contact Michele Murphy at mbmurphy@arizona.edu or (520) 626-5711. Thank you!

Sincerely,
