Dr. John Johnston delivered a lecture about Ōbaku Zen at The Japan Foundation, Bangkok

Dr. John Johnston, our senior fellow, delivered a special lecture at The Japan Foundation, Bangkok, exploring the  history of Ōbaku Zen and its profound impact on Edo Period Japan. We express our genuine happiness to Dr. Johnston and The Japan Foundation and The Siam Society Under Royal Patronage for this insightful collaboration.

The talk focused on the extraordinary history and artistic legacy of a form of Chinese Buddhism that was imported into Japan in the late 17th century. This type of Buddhism developed into Ōbaku Zen, the third official school of Zen in Japan.
