Just what is "American" Buddhism - and how does it differ from Asian Buddhism? Learn of the rich diversity among Buddhist communities in the United States. See how key events, individuals, and groups influenced the development of American Buddhism from the mid-19th century to the present. Topics include immigration, pluralism, and identity in the context of religious expression. Racial othering and cultural appropriation also factor into our exploration of American Buddhist identities. We will draw upon a variety of sources, including recent research, personal interviews, and films.
