The University of Arizona’s Center for Buddhist Studies proudly stands with our entire community as we rise together to face the challenges of these difficult times. In all forms of Buddhism, compassion is a quality that is of singular importance. Today, President Robbins recognized the many instances of compassion and adaptability that our Wildcat community has shown as our students, teachers, and staff overcome these temporary obstacles in ways that inspire us all.
To offer a kind and helpful voice while we are apart, we are posting an interview that we conducted this past September with Venerable Hui Dong, Abbot of Fo Guang Shan Hsi Lai Temple in Los Angeles. His focus was How to Deal with Upheavals in Life from the Buddhist Perspective and how to apply these philosophies in one’s everyday life. We believe that his words might provide comfort and assurance and so we offer them to you. The interview is entirely translated with Mandarin subtitles so that it may be helpful to anyone we can reach in our community.
Ven. Hui Dong practices Humanistic Buddhism which places great emphasis on integrating Buddhist practice into the challenges we face in our everyday life as a living participant in our worldwide community. We hope that some of these ideas can be helpful to you in the coming days and months.
Please continue to remain calm and safe, and never forget that while we are temporarily apart, our hearts are always united.
