Thanks to the generous support from Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou China, the Center for Buddhist Studies at the University of Arizona establishes a Buddhist Studies Best Graduate Research Paper Award for graduate students who demonstrate superb research abilities through writing and publishing.
Applicants and recipients should be current graduate students enrolled in a graduate program in any college or department at the University of Arizona, rather than visiting or affiliated. The total amount of the award is $5,000, which can be shared if multiple awardees are selected. Applicants must be the primary authors of their works and should submit a polished research paper in English or other academic languages (between 30 to 40 pages double-spaced or between 5,000 to 8,000 words). The subject should be related to the Hangzhou Buddhist Culture or Buddhism in general. Being published, accepted, or reviewed for publication in academic journals or edited volumes will be considered strong evidence of excellence, which should be submitted along with the application. A committee will be formed to judge all submissions based on their merit.
The deadline is March 15, and the result will be announced by May. In addition to the paper and an information sheet which can be downloaded from this page https://cbs.arizona.edu/programs/student-awards, applicants should submit an abstract of 250 words, a short cover letter, evidence of publication or acceptance if available, and CVs to Buddhist-studies@email.arizona.edu. (If the paper is written in a language other than English, an abstract of 1,000 words in English should be submitted together with the original paper and abstract.)
