Music can be a source of deep comfort during troubling times, bringing peace and easing suffering for performers and audience alike. Explore the special role that music plays in Buddhism with this series of videos compiled from Harmony and Compassion: Music in Buddhist Ritual, an online conference and music series that took place from April 8 - 10, 2021. The event was presented by the US-China Music Institute at Bard College Conservatory of Music.
The conference videos feature in-depth presentations from scholars, educators, composers, lamas, monks, and musicians. These inspiring experts in their field perform and explain the origins of ceremonial music from temples in the regions of Northern China, Southern China, Taiwan, and Tibet, as well as Bhutan, and North America.
