Sponsored by the Buddhist Association of China and the National Art Museum of China, and co-organized by Hangzhou Yongfu Temple and Fuqing Wanfu Temple, the calligraphy and painting exhibition "The Obaku Arts that Nourishes China and Japan: The World of Chan Arts of Yinyuan and His Peers and Disciples" will be held at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing from March 20 to April 13, 2022.

Master Yinyuan Longqi was a prestigious Buddhist master in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. He travelled to Japan in 1654 and founded the Japanese Obaku school. Meanwhile, he made an explicit effort in promoting Chinese culture in Japan. This exhibition brings together more than 90 calligraphy works, ink paintings, and manuscripts by Yinyuan, his dharma teacher Feiyin Tongrong, and his disciples Mu'an Xingtao, Jifei Ruyi, Duli Xingyi, Yueshan Daozong, Gaoquan Xingdun, and Donggao Xinyue. It also includes a Statue of Master Yinyuan by Wu Weishan, and 12 pieces of Ming-Dynasty style furniture, tools, and stationeries that Master Yinyuan brought with him to Japan, which are recreated by the Wanfu temple on Mount Huangbo in Fuqing, Fujian.
