Topic: Geo-visualization, Geo-Parsing, and Index Measurement in the Study of Regional Religious Systems

Time: Sunday, September 18th, 2022 || 10:15-11:45 Arizona Time

Location: Conference Room S210, ENR2

The Regional Religious System (RRS) approach aims to provide a new perspective to the vast amount of geo-data related to regional religious sites. With the publication of the edited volume The Formation of Regional Religious Systems in Greater China (Routledge 2022), new research methods have been initiated and tested. Combining other spatial analysis methods such as Regional Systems Analysis (RSA), Hierarchical Regional Space (HRC), Point Pattern Analysis (PPA), the RRS project at the University of Arizona has focused on geo-visualization and geo-parsing in the past years. Right now, the creation of various indexes for measuring data in Regional Religious Systems has been attempted. This session will introduce some of the new progresses and raise challenging technical questions for further research. The launching of a new RRS website (rrs.arizona.edu) and a Hangzhou Buddhist Culture storymap will be announced.
