Title: Compassion in Universal Worthy's Conduct and Vows

Abstract: This is an exegetical essay on Universal Worthy's Conduct and Vows, Chapter 40 of Avatamsaka Sutra, which is one of the most important sutras in Mahayana Buddhism. In my essay, I argue that the basis of "ten vast and great conduct of vows" in this chapter is Buddhist "compassion," which is reflected through the love of the Buddha towards sentiment beings. Such compassion breaks the boundary between self and others, this life and afterlife. Thus, the compassion is vast, and by learning from the teaching of this chapter in Avatamsaka Sutra, we can benefit from the teachings of compassion and live a happier life.
