Congratulations to our undergraduate student, Rob Lisak, in the program of Buddhist Studies at UA! Robert has been awarded the third Prize of the Undergraduate Group in an essay competition of “Ci - Chinese character of Compassion” hosted by Maitreya Culture & Education Foundation in Hong Kong. The foundation is established by Prof. Andrew Wong, who is a senior fellow of the Center for Buddhist Studies at UA.

Maitreya Culture & Education Foundation Ltd. will hold the Awarded Articles Presentation of “Ci-Chinese character of Compassion” for Celebration of 70th Anniversary of People's Republic of China & 100th Anniversary of May 4th Movement & 10th Anniversary of Maitreya Culture & Education Foundation Ltd. on May 4, 2019 at the Hong Kong Youth Association Building, North Point, Hong Kong.

The abstract of Rob’s essay is listed as follows: In an attempt to reveal a better understanding of the concept of compassion, the essay takes an introspective journey through the history and languages of both the east and west. Textbook definitions are considered as well as the relationships between this concept and religion, science, philosophy, human evolution, and the personal experiences of the author. After some consideration towards the fundamental inability to fully capture the essence of compassion in any language, there is a personal appeal directly to the reader to discover all universal aspects of what this seemingly simple concept represents.
