Happy Vesak Day! Buddhists all around the world celebrate this holiday to commemorate the birth, enlightenment and passing away of Buddha. The date is determined by the Asian lunisolar calendar and this year falls on May 26, 2021.
One of the world’s major religions, Buddhism is practiced by approximately 500 million people worldwide. Vesak Day is celebrated at various times in April and May depending upon local calendars and customs. During this time, devotees decorate temples with flowers and candles, practice acts of charity, and perform traditional music and dance. Buddhist also renew their commitment to a noble life and express kindness to others by offering vegetarian food to fellow Sangha members.
